Sustainable Suggestions for Your Next Event
In honor of Earth Day, we’ve put together a list of sustainable suggestions to make your next event more eco-friendly! As a company, Willowdale Estate is proud to constantly strive for a greener future and continuously make improvements for the betterment of our environment. Here is some inspiration we have loved from past events:
Eliminate Single-Use Items
One of the best ways to achieve this is to rent décor instead of buying. Willowdale has a large selection of in-house décor including lanterns, rechargeable candles, arbors, card boxes, and more! We also work with a great team of event professionals to bring in additional items such as upgraded seating, linens, tables, and place settings. Avoid disposable plates, utensils, and cups. Opt for cloth napkins and reusable tableware. If you’re going to use straws, make sure to use paper or compostable straws.
Multipurpose Décor
It’s great to use gifts as décor or décor as favors. This past baby shower used the children’s books as decor and presents. We’ve also seen place cards / seating charts used as favors as well, like the potted succulents below. You can also repurpose items and give them new life!
Source Local Favors
It’s great to support a local business and have a great favor. Some popular items we’ve seen have been honey, jams, soaps, or candles.
Mindful Florals
Potted plants make for great sustainable decor and are able to be brought home to enjoy or replant. If you’re looking for fresh cut flowers, opt for seasonal florals in your design, like this springtime design of forsythia and daffodils. After your event, see if you can donate florals or compost instead of throwing them out. A non-floral arrangement makes for a beautiful keepsake.

Carpool or Shuttle
Save on gas and reduce emissions by having guests carpool or have them use a shuttle service.
