2015 Pantone Color of the Year: Marsala
The Pantone Color Institute chose Marsala for the 2015 “Color of the Year”. It is a natural and powerful plush red reminiscent of a rich glass of wine that offers an elegant color palette and can be used as an accent color or stand alone to add a sophisticated statement to your wedding or event.
Ahead of the trend, Rachel & Jeffrey got married last October and used a Marsala based color palette in many elements of their wedding day. The bridesmaids wore classic flowing floor length dresses in a plush Marsala hue and their bouquets, created by Karla Cassidy Design, consisted of multiples colors in the above color palette including: Marsala, Cream Pink, Gossamer Pink and Starlight Blue. The deep red wine accents in the bouquets and the bridesmaids dresses themselves adds a great pop of color against the brides white lace gown.
Small rustic birch tree pieces served as vases with the same flower arrangements as the bridal party bouquets and were used for a mantle display in the estate and matched nicely with the intricate stone and woodwork details. For favors, simple burlap pouches in Rugby Tan were designed for their guests with the bride and grooms initials and a small Marsala colored heart with matching ribbon. To tie in these powerful colors to their sweetheart table, larger versions of their initials in the earthy red Marsala rested atop a burlap runner on a rustic brown wooden crate. Mixing strong textures together with lavishly rich colors creates an impactful and memorable look and feel.
As seen throughout the details of Rachel and Jeffrey’s wedding day, the Marsala color palette is very versatile and creates an element of elegance that can easily be incorporated on a small or large scale. Even the autumn leaves in the landscape of the image below connects the earthy palette to the changing colors of the fall foliage.
